General Questions

Q1. I received an error message after entering my payment information, did my order go through?

If the internet connection is disrupted it could cause an error message while processing your order. Check to see if you have received a confirmation email. If you have received an email, your order is confirmed as entered. If you do not see a confirmation email, please contact us at  catchtheacecs@sickkidsfoundation.ca or using the Contact Us form prior to attempting another ticket order.

Q2. What is a Catch the Ace raffle?

Catch the Ace is a progressive jackpot, multiple-draw, weekly raffle in which ticketholders have the chance to win a Weekly Prize and the Catch the Ace Jackpot.

Q3. How does SickKids Catch the Ace Raffle work?

The SickKids Catch the Ace Raffle is Ontario’s first-ever provincial online version of the enormously popular raffle. Tickets start at $10 for 3 and provide a chance to win BIG – in both a weekly prize and a larger progressive jackpot - with 50% of all tickets sales going to SickKids.

When you buy tickets, you will also pick an envelope that might contain the Ace of Spades. If your ticket is chosen, you’ll win 20% of that week’s ticket sales – and if your card in the envelope is the Ace of Spades, you’ll also win the Catch the Ace Progressive Jackpot. If your card is not the Ace of Spades, the progressive jackpot grows and that card is removed from the deck, increasing the chances of catching the ace next week.

Weekly draws continue until the Ace of Spades is caught and the Progressive Jackpot is won!

Q4. How are the Weekly Prize and Progressive Jackpot determined and won?

The Weekly Prize is 20% of ticket sales collected during a specific draw week. The Catch the Ace Progressive Jackpot is 30% of all ticket sales collected over the course of the multi-week campaign.

Example: If the draw was made for the 10th week of the campaign, and there were $25,000 in ticket sales every week the total would be $250,000 over the 10 weeks;

The Weekly Prize for the 10th week would be $5,000 (20% of $25,000) and would go to the draw winner for week 10.

The Catch the Ace Progressive Jackpot would be at $75,000 (30% of $250,000) and would go to the draw winner for week 10 – if their selected envelope contained the Ace of Spades.

Q5. When are the deadlines for the SickKids Catch the Ace Raffle ticket sales?

Weekly sales will be cut off at 6:00pm every Thursday. If the Ace of Spades is not revealed during that evening’s draw, sales for the following week will commence at 6:30pm the same evening.

Q6. Is every part of the SickKids Catch the Ace Raffle managed through a digital platform?

All aspects of the SickKids Catch the Ace Raffle are managed using a digital platform, or software program, that has been approved by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.

There is no paper generated during this raffle. Everything is digital, including:

  • Tickets and ticket distribution
  • Envelopes containing playing cards
  • Draw process and management

Q7.  What are the odds of winning in the SickKids Catch the Ace Raffle?

The odds of winning a Weekly Prize draw depend on the number of tickets in the draw. There is no limit to the number of tickets that can be sold. The odds of selecting the envelope containing the Ace of Spades begins at 1 in 52 and these odds improve with each weekly removal of envelopes containing a card other than the Ace of Spades.

Q8. What percentage of the raffle proceeds are directed to SickKids Foundation?

Fifty percent of all raffle proceeds are retained by SickKids and, following other raffle costs, are invested in building the new Hospital for Sick Children.

Q9. What is the SickKids Catch the Ace Raffle Lottery Licence Number?

The SickKids Catch the Ace Raffle licence number is SickKids LL #RAF1415104, as provided by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.

Q4. How old do you have to be to order a SickKids Catch the Ace Raffle ticket?

You must be at least 18 years old at the time of purchase. Tickets cannot be purchased in the name of a minor.

Q5. Why is there a limit to the number of ticket bundles I can buy?

  • Members of the same household for each of the above

Q8. Why do I have to select one of the remaining digital envelopes?

Each of the digital envelopes contains a hidden playing card and the Catch the Ace Progressive Jackpot will be won by the ticket holder who wins the Weekly Prize draw and selects the envelope containing the Ace of Spades. Every ticket order must include a selected envelope.

Q9. Can I select an envelope for each ticket in my order or one envelope for each order?

One envelope is selected for each ticket order. Players wishing to select multiple envelopes can place several ticket orders and select a different envelope for each order.

Having more than one envelope selection does not increase your odds of winning the weekly or progressive prize.

Q10. I am trying to order my ticket. Why isn't it going through?

You must be located in the province of Ontario when ordering a ticket. Please ensure your location services are enabled so your location can be confirmed by the raffle program.

Draws, Prizes & Winners

Q1. How is the winning ticket determined?

A single ticket is selected each week using a random number generator program within the raffle platform. The winning ticket is selected from all tickets purchased during the week of sales.

Q2. Is there a guaranteed winner every week?

Each week of the raffle, the Weekly Prize will be awarded to one winner. The Weekly Prize is 20% of all ticket sales collected during that week of play.

Q3. Is there a guaranteed Progressive Jackpot in this raffle?

Yes. The minimum guaranteed value of the Progressive Jackpot is $25,000 and this amount will be awarded if the Ace of Spades is revealed before total ticket sales reach $83,333.33. Once ticket sales exceed this amount, the Progressive Jackpot will be 30% of all ticket sales.

Q4. Do I win a prize if I selected the same envelope as the Weekly Prize winner, and it contains the Ace of Spades?

Only the holder of the Weekly Prize-winning ticket is eligible to win the Catch the Ace Progressive Jackpot. Any given week, numerous ticketholders could select the same envelope number when buying their tickets.

Q5. How will the winner be notified?

All winners will be notified by telephone and/or email as to their win and how to claim their prize. All winning ticket numbers and prize amounts will be posted on SickKidsAce.ca by 6:30pm following each draw.

Prizes will be awarded to the registered ticket buyer.

Q6. How do I claim my prize?

All winners will receive a telephone call/email with instructions on how to claim their prize. Prizes must be claimed within six (6) months of the prize draw.

Q7. Will my name be publicized if I am a winner?

In accordance with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) regulations, winner information must be collected and provided to the AGCO, including ticket number, full name and contact information.

Winner information will also be published to the SickKids Catch the Ace Raffle website. By claiming a prize, winner consents to the use of their likeness/photograph, first and last name, ticket number, city/town of residence and the audio/video recording (or written transcription) of the winner notification telephone call, for any publicity purposes by SickKids Foundation.  Winner information may be released to the news media and may be used in advertising for the Hospital for Sick Children, SickKids Catch the Ace Raffle or SickKids Foundation.
